Alessandro Volta was born in Como in 1745.
He's famous for his research and discoveries on electricity but also in the field of chemistry.
In the years between 1776 and 1778, he studied the chemistry of gases. After reading a paper by Benjamin Franklin of the United States on "flammable air", in November 1776, he noticed in the marshes of Angera on Lake Maggiore little bubbles coming up to the water surface.
